He’s done it again! Leo Messi converted a direct free kick against Las Palmas on Thursday night, the 23rd time he’s done that in a Liga encounter – four of those this very season.
And what a strike it was. Converted with such expertise, swerving the ball around the wall and into the far corner of the goal with such perfection that he almost made it look easy.
Real Sociedad, Alavés and Girona have also been on the receiving end of Messi free kicks this season, as have Olympiacos in the Champions League, and you can enjoy them all in the video above.
The goal against Girona set a new league record for goals against different teams. That’s 36 victims for the Argentinian in total.
The one at the Estadio de Gran Canaria was also associated to the number 36, for that’s the number of top flight stadiums where Messi has now scored at least once.
Other than the Camp Nou, of course, his happiest hunting grounds over the years have been Real Madrid’s Santiago Bernabéu (11) and Deportivo’s Riazor (10).
Of the twenty current Liga stadiums, the only ones where Messi has never hit the net are Montilivi, home of Girona, and Atlético’s new Wanda Metropolitano, both of which he visited for the first time earlier this season.
