This Tuesday, FC Barcelona will visit the Estadio Olimpico in Rome for an important Champions League encounter. It could also be a milestone night for Leo Messi and Andrés Iniesta.
The pair are already the duo to have participated in the most Champions League games together, but could reach 100 appearances in the competition alongside one another if picked for the quarter final second leg against AS Roma. The record was previously held by another Barça combination: Carles Puyol and Xavi Hernández, who played together 96 times in Europe's top club tournament.
Messi and Iniesta have played in some legendary Champions League fixtures together. Perhaps the most famous was the contest in which Iniesta scored against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge in 2009, set up by a pass from his Argentinian teammate
Iniesta is a veteran of 129 Champions League games, and Messi has been part of 124 such matches. This Tuesday they have a chance to reach 100 alongside one another.
