PREVIEW | Leganés v FC Barcelona

Three points in Butarque would at least guarantee the blaugranes a four point lead after the weekend's fixtures

A vital away game this weekend for FC Barcelona as they travel to Leganés on Saturday, kick off at 9pm CEST in the Estadio de Butarque. Week 31 in La Liga comes with Barça four points ahead of their nearest rivals Real Madrid in the table so any slips up from Hansi Flick's team could prove costly.

Carlo Ancelotti's team are in action on Sunday away at Alavés and could be seven points the blaugranes come kick off at Mendizorroza. Third placed Atlético Madrid a seven points behind Barça and have their game on Monday at home to bottom side Valladolid.

Champions League around

The trip to Leganés comes in the middle of Barça's Champions League tie against Borussia Dortmund. On Wednesday the blaugranes took a 4-0 win in the first leg at the Estadi Olímpic with the second leg to come next Tuesday in Germany. Hansi Flick's team have gone 23 games unbeaten in all competitions, not losing a single game in 2025 so far.

Leganés in need of points

The home side Leganés have their own reasons for needing the points on Saturday. Borja Jiménez's team are currently in the relegation zone in 18th place, two points from safety. The team from the outskirts of Madrid have gone four games without a win, picking up just one point in that time. However, they did win 1-0 at Montjuïc back in December and have a striker in form in the shape of Dani Raba who has scored in his last three games.

Lewandowski looking to open his account

For Barça striker and current La Liga top scorer Robert Lewandowski the game against Leganés is a chance to score his first goal against the club, with Borja Jiménez's team one of just three sides yet to concede to the Pole, the others being Almería and Las Palmas.

This fixture completes a trio of fixtures identical to the run of games in December. Back before Christmas Barça drew with Betis (2-2), beat Borussia Dortmund (3-2) before losing to Leganés. This time around the blaugranes drew once again with Betis (1-1) and took a win over Dortmund (4-0) with Saturday's game still to come.
