Gavi: 'We're having a great season but we're not unbeatable'

The Barça midfielder appears before the press ahead of his first ever Champions League quarter final, Wednesday's game against Borussia Dortmund

With the long term knee injury now behind him, Gavi is getting back to his best and still retain that winners' mentality that is such an important part of his identity as a player, and that makes him such a firm favourite amongst Barça fans. The midfielder appeared in the pre-game press conference on Tuesday ahead of the clash with Borussia Dortmund and the Barça number 6 cannot wait to get started. "It's my first ever quarter final [in the Champions League] and I can't wait to get some minutes and, above all, get the win," began Gavi.

Good performances usually mean good results as has been the case on so many occasions this season for Hansi Flick's side. Another will be needed on Wednesday in the first leg of their quarter final against the Bundesliga side with the return leg to come in Germany next week. Gavi is aware the side are doing well but also careful to avoid complacency: "We are putting in a great season but we don't feel unbeatable. In football you can't always win." Winning key games will be the way to go for the midfield as the team "want to celebrate as many trophies as possible with the fans."

Back in the swing of things

The Barça midfielder has shown great versatility this season, playing in the centre of midfield and in a more attacking role. Gavi admits this is something he is working on: "Every day I try to improve and Hansi Flick is helping me. I am working on being as complete a player as possible."

The player from La Masia went on to describe his relationship with Barça's German coach. "We have a great connection. He trusts me and I am relaxed and happy." Of those who criticise saying he is all commitment and no football, Gavi simply rebuffed, "they have no idea."
