Gavi scores on 100th league appearance

Despite his youth, Gavi played his 100th game in La Liga on Saturday against Real Betis and celebrated by scoring Barça's goal in the 1-1 draw in the Estadi Olímpic.

The midfielder was in the starting XI for the visit of Manuel Pellegrini's side thereby reaching his century of league appearances in a Barça shirt. His goal came early on in the encounter, in the seventh minute, latching on to an excellent pass from Ferran Torres. 

The celebration was muted from Gavi out of respect for the club, Betis, where he started his career as a young boy. Then came a hug from coach Hansi Flick. "The coach has a lot of confidence in me, and in the team too," explained the midfielder after the game. Ever the competitor, despite the goal and milestone, Gavi could not hide his disappointment at the team not taking all three points. 

Gavi made his league debut for Barça some four years ago. Despite a serious knee injury, the midfielder has reached 100 appearance in the competition at the age of just 20. In his century of matches he has scored 6 goals, won 63 times, drawn 20 and lost just 17.
