Eric Garcia completes first century

Eric Garcia started Sunday's game against Girona and in doing so was able to celebrate his first ton of appearances for FC Barcelona since making his official debut on 15 August 2021 at home to Real Sociedad during the Ronald Koeman era.

The centre back left the Barça youth system to join Manchester City, which is where he played his first pro football, but later returned to Barça, although he spent last season enjoying a very successful loan year at Girona.

Smart and versatile

He has started 62 of his 100 games for Barça, scoring four goals and giving three assists.

But versatility is perhaps his biggest gift to the team. Although it was as a centre back that he developed into the game, he has frequently been used in more advanced positions to equal and sometimes even better effect. It was Xavi who tried the experiment first, but Hansi Flick has also frequently preferred to use the 24-year-old in midfield too.
