Ferran Torres: The goalscoring habit

The 'shark' is a veritable supersub and is third top scorer under Hansi Flick

Ferran Torres can't stop scoring goals. On Sunday he added two more to his booming collection as Barça turned around a 2-0 deficit to win 4-2 away to Atlético Madrid. With 13 goals across all competitions, he is now the third highest goalscorer of the Hansi Flick era.

Supersub

An incredible eight of those 13 goals have been scored coming off the bench, making Ferran the archetypal supersub who can always be relied on to stir things up in the final minutes. Only Alexander Sørloth of Atlético has scored more goals, ten, in games that he has not started this term.

Having played 32 games under Hansi Flick, he is now tied with Lamine Yamal as the third highest goalscorer in the team since the German took charge, topped only by the magnificent 27 netted by Raphinha and the simply staggering 35 that Robert Lewandowski has claimed.

But not only does he score, but he scores goals that matter. Not only was Torres a vital component of the comeback at the Metropolitano this week, but he did likewise when Barça came from behind to beat Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League. And it was his hat-trick at Mestalla that pushed Barça into the Copa del Rey semi-finals, as well as a late goal to secure three points away to Las Palmas

Personal best

This is his strongest season yet when it comes to goals, for he has already dwarfed the 11 that he got in 42 appearances last season, the seven in 45 games in 2022/23, and the seven in 26 matches of 2021/22. He is currently scoring at a rate of a goal every 86 minutes, a tally that puts him right up with the best.
