Lamine Yamal, youngest player to score and assist in a Champions League game

At the age of 17 year and 241 days, the Catalan winger beats the previous record held by Swiss striker Breel Embolo

Tuesday's game against Benfica saw another demonstration of the talent that is Lamine Yamal. The teenager was one of the stars of the last 16 Champions League second leg against the Portuguese side, scoring a brilliant goal to make it 2-1 in the first half in the Estadi Olímpic Lluís Companys. His curling effort form the edge of the box has been nominated by UEFA as one of the two candidates for 'Goal of the Day' and you can vote for Lamine's effort on UEFA's official website via the link below. 

The goal was not Lamine's first significant contribution to the game. Earlier in the first half a typical mazy dribble ended with the winger crossing for Raphinha to open the scoring against Benfica. With a goal and an assist in the same game, the teenager became the youngest player ever to achieve such a feat in the Champions League. 

At 17 years and 241 days old, Lamine broke the record held by Swiss striker Breel Embolo who scored and assisted for FC Basel against Ludogorets in November 2014 at the age of 17 years and 263 days. Rounding off the podium as third youngest to achieve the feat is another blaugrana, Ansu Fati, who scored and created an assist against Ferencváros in October 2020 at the age of 17 years and 355 days.
