Unbeaten in a wonderful start to 2025

FC Barcelona have been flying since the new year begun. The 2-0 win at the Estadio de Gran Canaria over Las Palmas means that they are still unbeaten after no fewer than 13 tests, in which time they have won the Spanish Super Cup, progressed in the Champions League and Copa del Rey, and restored their lead in La Liga.

Barça had lost to Las Palmas earlier in the season and they had troubles in this fixture too. The sides were goalless at the break, but Dani Olmo finally got things moving and Ferran Torres finished things off in injury time.

Matches Xavi, chasing Luis Enrique

Hansi Flick has therefore matched Xavi's unbeaten run as manager in the first 13 games of 2023. But there is still a long way to go to catch the extraordinary start to 2016, when Luis Enrique led the side to 23 unbeaten games on the trot, 18 of which were wins.

Big tests ahead

Barça 2025 has 11 wins and two draws. And things are looking very good indeed as we head into the business end of the season, with what promises to be a tight Liga chase, the Champions League last 16, starting with Benfica, and the semi-final of the Copa del Rey, the first leg of which is this coming Tuesday against Atlético Madrid.
