FC Barcelona top scorers in the UCL league phase

With 28 goals in eight games, Hansi Flick's side have found the net more than any other team in this season's European competition

The league phase of the Champions League has come to a close. The win against Benfica had already confirmed that FC Barcelona were through to the last 16 of the competition, thus avoiding the play-offs and another two European fixtures.

The draw against Atalanta at the Estadi Olímpic Lluís Companys meant that Hansi Flick's side ended the league phase in second position with 19 out of a possible 24 points, with a record of six wins, one draw, and one defeat.

One stat that really stands out is the number of goals scored. Barça are way out in front, having scored 28 goals in the eight league phase games. Borussia Dortmund are next highest on the list, back on 22.

First time for 13 years

Ending the first phase of the competition as top scorers is no mean feat. Testament to that is that Barça haven't done it since the 2011/2012 season, Pep Guardiola's final season at the helm.

That was when there were group stages, with six games played, home and away against the other three teams in the group (Milan, Viktoria Plzen and Bate Borisov). That season saw Barça score 20 goals.

That was their highest goalscoring tally to date. Previous occasions when the blaugranes finished as top scorers of the group stage were in 2008/09 with 18, 2005/06 with 16, 1999/2000 with 19, and 1993/94 with 13.
