Lewandowski enters record books with brace

Polish striker crowns a superb performance with a history-making brace

He was yet to score against Real Madrid in LaLiga, but Robert Lewandowski did just that in the El Clásico at the Bernabéu on 26 October, and what a way to do it. The striker grabbed a history-making brace in just over two minutes to tilt the match very much in favour of a blaugrana win.

The Pole is in a sweet vein of form. He has now scored 14 goals in 11 games, with 8 coming as part of braces against Valencia, Villarreal, Sevilla, and now Real Madrid. The two strikes against the all-whites means the blaugrana striker is now the clear "pichichi" (leading scorer in LaLiga), an honour he already earned during his first season with the Club in 22/23.

Joining an esteemed list

This wasn't just any brace at the Santiago Bernabéu stadium because it meant Robert Lewandowski has joined a very select list for goalscoring in Clásicos. His goals achieved not one, not two, but three milestones in the history of matches between Barça and Real Madrid.

Only six players have managed to score at brace against Real Madrid this century - Rivaldo, Ronaldinho, Messi (four times), Henry, Luis Suárez (twice), Aubameyang, and now Lewandowski. He also did it aged 36 years and 66 days old, making him the third oldest player to do so after Puskás (36 years and 257 days old) and Di Stéfano (36 years and 88 days old).

It was also the fastest brace in an El Clásico since Fusté scored twice against Real Madrid in under two minutes on 19 December 1965.
