Lamine Yamal, youngest player ever at European Championships
Lamine Yamal continues to set record after record at FC Barcelona and also with the Spanish national team. In the starting XI for the first game of the 2024 European Championships for Luis de la Fuente's side against Croatia, at the age of 16 years and 339 days the Barça winger is the youngest player ever to take part in the tournament.
After already becoming the youngest ever player for the national team and the youngest ever goalscorer, now Lamine Yamal heads the list for the youngest ever participants in the prestigious European tournament.
Almost a year of difference
The previous holder of the record was Polish international Kacper Kozlowksi who appeared in the delayed 2020 tournament in 2021 at the age of 17 years and 246 days. The teenager took the record just days after English midfielder Jude Bellingham had set it appearing for the national side at 17 years and 349 days.
Rounding out the top five youngest players to play in the Euros are Dutch full back Jetro Willems who appeared in the 2012 tournament at the age of 18 years and 71 days. Fifth place is taken by Belgian Enzo Scifo who way back in 1984 faced Yugoslavia aged 18 years and 115 days.
