Hansi Flick’s time as coach at Bayern Munich was a hugely successful one. Aside from trophies galore, the new Barça boss presided over a team who set records on the domestic and international stage. No mean feat given the names that had passed before him, legendary figures such as Louis van Gaal, Jupp Heynckes and Pep Guardiola.
An unbeatable start
Former Barça player and coach Josep Guardiola began his stint as Bayern boss by winning 21 of his opening 25 matches, setting a club record. Hansi Flick went one better by taking 22 victories in his opening 25 fixtures after taking over from Nico Kovac in 2019. The German coach surpassed all expectations in breaking records with his team’s direct, high-octane football.
81% wins
With just seven draws and nine defeats in his 86 matches in charge, Flick recorded a victory percentage of 81%, a new record, with 70 wins in all competitions.
Finally, between February and September 2020, Flick’s Bayern side put together a run of 23 consecutive victories in all competitions, leading the way in Europe’s top five leagues ahead of the records of Real Madrid with 22 and Manchester City with 21.
