Jonathan dos Santos, one of the attractions of the game in Dallas

Mexican midfielder, now at Club América, made his professional debut at FC Barcelona under Pep Guardiola

FC Barcelona are in Dallas on December 21 to take on Club América in a fundraiser for the victims of Hurricane Otis, while the game also provides the opportunity to catch up with Jonathan dos Santos, the former Barça man now playing for the Mexican club.

Debut day

The midfielder played 28 competitive games in his five years on the Barça books, starting on 28 October 2009 in the Copa del Rey against Cultural Leonesa, back in the time when Pep Guardiola was coach.

Unfortunately, a nasty cruciate ligament injury put paid to that season, and the following summer he was sold to Villarreal, where he was an important part of the team in his three years in yellow.

The US and Mexico

In 2017, Dos Santos left La Liga and headed for Los Angeles Galaxy. After five years in MLS he moved back to his homeland in 2021/2022, joining his current club Club América. His three years with Mexico's most successful team have seen a gradual improvement in his fortunes, and he is now a firmly established starter.

He'll certainly be looking forward to this chance to play against the club where it all began for him, FC Barcelona, and also to meet up again with former team-mate Xavi Hernández, who is still at Barça, but now as coach.
