Spotify Camp Nou has been FC Barcelona manager for almost 500 days, and has already faced Real Madrid six times, but this Sunday will be first Clásico that he has managed at Spotify Camp Nou.
Home at last
The two Liga games thus far have been at the Santiago Bernabéu (a 4-0 win last season and a 3-1 win this time), the 1-0 win in the cup was also away, with the return leg yet to come, both Super Cup meetings were in Saudi Arabia (an extra time defeat last season and Barça victory in this January's final), and there was also a friendly in Las Vegas decided by a solitary Raphinha goal.
Such a long wait is a record for a manager of either Barça or Real Madrid.
Xavi will be hoping to join the list of Barça managers who have won a Clásico at home at the first attempt.
Pair of Jacks and some mammoth wins
The first was Jack Greenwell in 1915/16, a 2-1 win in the cup semi-final (although that game was played at Carrer Muntaner, the Espanyol ground at the time). He was followed by his namesake Jack Domby (1925/26), the Hungarian Ferenc Platko (5-0 in 1934/35), Josep Planas (1940/41), Josep Samitier (also 5-0 in 1944/45), Enrique Fernández (1947/48), Ferdinand Daucik (an amazing 7-2 in 1950/51).
Domingo Balmanya (1956/57), Helenio Herrera (another big win, 4-0 in 1958/59), Ljubiša Broćić (the famous first ever elimination of Real Madrid from the European Cup semi-final), Ladislau Kubala (1961/62), the Argentinian Roque Olsen (1965/66), Josep Seguer (1969/70) and Rinus Michels (1971/72).
Big names, big debuts
Moving into the latter quarter of the last century, there were wins in the first home Clásico for Hennes Weisweiler (1975/76), French coach Lucien Müller (1978/79), Udo Lattek of Germany (1981/82), the Argentine César Luis Menotti (1982/83), Englishman Terry Venables (1984/85), the late Luis Aragonés (1987/88), the also sadly missed Johan Cruyff (1988/89), and another departed great Bobby Robson (1996/97 with a stellar performance from Ronaldo Nazario) followed by Louis Van Gaal a year later (1997/98).
There have been five winners in their debut home Clásico this century: Serra Ferrer (2000/01), Pep Guardiola (2008/09), Tito Vilanova (2012/13), Tata Martino (2013/14) and Luis Enrique (2014/15).
Let's hope Xavi Hernández can become the 28th name on the list this Sunday!
