The round of 32 now complete, FC Barcelona now knows which teams it could be facing in the last sixteen of the Copa del Rey.
The possible opponents are:
From the first division: Villarreal, Valencia, Real Madrid, Espanyol, Sevilla, Real Sociedad, Mallorca, Atlético Madrid or Betis, Osasuna, Athletic Club
From the second division: Levante, Sporting Gijón, Alavés
From the third tier: Ceuta
The draw will be held this Saturday at 1pm CET at the Ciudad Deportiva de Las Rozas and the games will be played on January 17, 18 and 19. All games are played over a single leg. Teams from lower divisions cannot be drawn against each other and will always get home advantage against clubs from higher divisions.
However, this year there is no rule to split up the teams playing in the Spanish Super Cup. That means that Betis, Valencia, Barça and Real Madrid could play against each other.
Round of 32 drama
This week's games produced plenty of excitement. The biggest shock was third tier Ceuta beating top flight club Elche, while other Liga casualties were Valladolid, Rayo Vallecano and Getafe, who were respectively beaten by Alavés, Sporting Gijón and Levante.
In the only all-first division encounter, Espanyol saw off Celta after extra time.
While some sides qualified comfortably at the expense of lower ranked clubs, two of the sides that struggled most were FC Barcelona and Real Madrid. While the Catalans needed extra time to see off third tier Intercity, Madrid also got a scare against Cacereño, squeezing through in the end with a 1-0 win.
