Experience despite youth
Pablo Páez Gavira was born in the town of Los Palacios y Villafranca near Seville on 5 August, 2004. As a youngster he made his way to the youth system at Real Betis where he spent two seasons representing the verdiblancos at the Luis del Sol training complex just a stone's throw from the Benito Villamarín stadium.
Then, Gavi made his fateful move to FC Barcelona for the 2015/16 season. He first represented the blaugranes at U12 level before moving through the youth categories quickly to reach the U19 squad. After impressing quickly it was not long before he made his debut for Barça B, replacing Nico González in a 6-0 win against Hospitalet on 21 February 2021. The midfielder made one more appearance that season for the B team in the local derby against Espanyol.
After just two appearances for the B team, then first team coach Ronald Koeman saw something in the young midfielder and included him in the squad in preseason ahead of the 2021/22 season. The coach's faith was repaid as in August of 2021 Gavi made his official first team debut against Getafe in La Liga aged just 17 years and 24 days, the fourth youngest in Barça history.
Now established as a first team regular, Gavi scored his first goal for the blaugranes in December 2021 in a 3-2 win over Elche, becoming the third youngest ever goalscorer for the Club.
At just 18 years of age he is already a key member of Luis Enrique's full national Spain squad.
Hard working midfielder
As a midfielder he is well versed in Barça's style of play having come through the youth system at La Masia. Technically gifted and a valuable asset on the field defensively, Gavi is a player all coaches would love to have in their squad.
