FC Barcelona and Nico González have reached an agreement to renew the player's contract, which was set to expire on 30 June 2024, for an additional two years through to 30 June 2026. His buyout clause has been set at a billion euros.
At the same time, FC Barcelona and Valencia CF have reached an agreement for the player to spend the 2022/23 season on loan to the latter. There is no purchase option included in the deal.
Nico González was just 11 years old when he joined FC Barcelona from Montañeros. He rose through the club's youth ranks, eventually making his Barça B debut at the age of 17 under Garcia Pimienta. In 2019/20 he played all six games in the UEFA Youth League and helped the reserves to the Division 2A play-offs.
In 2021/22, Nico was handed his first team debut by Ronald Koeman in a league game against Real Sociedad. After some fine performances, he was given a regular place in the squad in the winter of 2022, with Xavi Hernández now serving as manager.
He played 37 games in his first senior season, scoring two goals and giving the same number of assists.
