Sunday has been a bittersweet day for Sergio Agüero. The Argentinian got to play in his first Clásico and used the occasion to score his first goal in a Barça shirt, but it merely served as minor consolation for a team that ended up losing 2-1 at home to Real Madrid.
He came on for Ansu Fati after 74 minutes, and in his short time on pitch managed to do plenty to show his class and was ultimately rewarded with a goal in the seventh minute of injury time, knocking in a well-delivered assist from Sergiño Dest.
It wasn’t his first goal against Real Madrid, he scored four before in his Atlético Madrid and Manchester City days, but it does mean that he has continued his negative record against what is very much his bogey team: fifteen games in total and still no wins.
Five newcomers
Apart from Kun, another four players also gained their first Clásico experience today. Eric Garcia, Gavi and Memphis all started the game, while Luuk de Jong came on in the second half.
9th Argentine blaugrana in a Clásico this century
Agüero also became the ninth Argentinian to represent FC Barcelona against Real Madrid since the turn of the century. The eight other names on the list are Leo Messi, Mascherano, Saviola, Bonano, Gabi Milito, Riquelme, Sorín and Maxi López. Of those, only Messi, had scored in the famous fixture.
