Pedri contract extension to 2026

Extension to be signed this Friday and will include a 1 billion euro release clause

FC Barcelona and the player, Pedro González 'Pedri', have agreed a contract extension up to 30 June 2026. The release clause is set at 1 billon euro.

The new contract ties down the player from the Canary Islands for the rest of this season and a further 4 years. The official signing will take place on Friday 15 October, with the following schedule:

• 1.30pm CEST, the signing of the contract in a private ceremony in the president's office.

• 2.00pm CEST, a photo session before a press conference in Auditori 1899.

The player's presentation will be available for viewing via Barça TV and Barça TV+ from 1.30pm CEST. Barça TV+ will also show a special programme in English featuring Pedri at 1.00pm CEST from Camp Nou.

Pedri's records as an early bloomer

Pedri officially became an FC Barcelona player on 20 August 2020. The young Barca player was only 17 years old when he was presented in Auditori 1899 and the year he turned 18 proved to be one to remember. Thanks to his collective vision for the game, age proved no barrier to Pedri becoming a starter in midfield.

Pedri played 53 games wearing the Barça jersey during the 2020/21 season. This made him the player to feature in the most matches for Barça - an unprecedented achievement in recent years. The Canary Islands player also won the Copa del Rey during his first year with FC Barcelona.

The young Barça player also became the second youngest footballer to play in 50 official matches behind Bojan Krkic. Pedri scored his first goal for Barça in a 5-2 win over Real Betis. Scoring the final goal of the match made him the fourth youngest player in the Club's history to score in La Liga, behind Ansu Fati, Bojan Krkic and Leo Messi.

74 matches in one season

Pedri played for the Spanish national team at the European Championships, becoming the youngest player to debut for Spain in the tournament's history. He was also selected for the tournament's best team, as well as voted the best young player, before heading off to the Tokyo Olympics to play a key role for the Spanish team, winning a silver medal with the side.

His 74 matches make him the player with the most appearances in any European league. A tough year, with many miles on the clock, but one full of reward. The 2021/22 season has seen him play in four games, including the first game against Real Sociedad when the fans were back in Camp Nou, with Pedri receiving warm applause from the stands.
