PREVIEW: Barça v Getafe

On Sunday at 5.00pm CEST, the Camp Nou is the venue for the third Liga game of the season

Following a 4-2 win against Real Sociedad on the opening day of La Liga 2021/22 and then a 1-1 draw at Athletic Club, Barça are back at Camp Nou for game three. Getafe are the opposition, after which La Liga takes a break for this season’s first set of international fixtures.

Once again, the stadium is limited to 30% of capacity due to Covid-19 restrictions, but all 19,136 season ticket holders that applied for seats will be able to attend.

How it stands

With a win, Barça could join four other teams on seven points, namely Real Madrid, Sevilla, Valencia and Mallorca.

After Sevilla drew at Elche yesterday, only one team, champions Atlético Madrid can finish the weekend with the maximum 9 points, for which they would need to beat Villarreal in Sunday's later kick-off (10.00pm CEST)..

Last five meetings

Apr 2021: Barça 5-2 Getafe (La Liga)
Oct 2020: Getafe 1-0 Barça (La Liga)
Feb 2020: Barça 2-1 Getafe (La Liga)
Sep 2019: Getafe 0-2 Barça (La Liga)
May 2019: Barça 2-0 Getafe (La Liga)

Did you know?

Getafe have three former Barça players in their ranks, Marc Cucurella (injured), Carles Aleñá and Sandro Ramírez.

Barça have only lost one of their last 17 league games against Getafe, which was the unexpected 1-0 defeat at their ground in south Madrid last season.

This will be the seventeenth time that Getafe have played at Camp Nou since they were first promoted to the top flight in 2004 and they are still waiting for their first win. They have managed four draws though.

Getafe’s new coach, former Real Madrid great Míchel, has managed teams against Barça eight times in his career and to date has only managed to register one victory.

Women honoured

FC Barcelona's gold medal winning (and world record breaking) triple jumper Yulimar Rojas will be taking the honorary kick-off before the match.

And after sweeping the awards at Thursday’s UEFA gala, the winning members of the women’s team will also be appearing on the Camp Nou field before the game begins, including Alèxia Putellas, who was named UEFA Women's Player of the Year.

Team news

The big news is the return of both Marc-Andre ter Stegen and Òscar Mingueza, who have both been declared fully fit on Saturday morning.

Gerard Piqué, Ousmane Dembélé, Ansu Fati and Sergio Agüero all miss out through injury, while Eric Garcia is suspended after being rec carded in Bilbao last week.

Pedri is also absent after the club decided to give the Canary Islander a well-deserved fortnight off after a summer in which he has had no rest at all due to playing at both Euro 2020 and the Tokyo Olympics.
