What a day for Ilaix Moriba! The amazingly athletic and skilful Barça B prodigy has scored his first goal for the Barça first team.
In just his fifth game and with the number 27 on his back, the Guinea-born starlet claimed the second of tonight’s goals in a 2-0 win at Osasuna. Following a sweet exchange between Pedri and Messi, Ilaix collected the ball close to the D and following a deft shimmy to the left fired in the perfect left-footed shot.
Curiously, it was the very same goal, the north end at El Sadar, in which Ansu Fati had scored his first senior goal on 31 August 2019. That made the Guinea-Bissau born striker the youngest scorer ever for the club, while Ilaix himself is fifth in the ranking, topped only by Ansu, Bojan, Messi and Pedri.
Winning and winning
"I’m so happy, I’ll need some time to take all this in” said the La Masia graduate, who was also delighted with the victory. In fact, until now every time he has played, Barça have won. Long may that run continue!
His debut came in the Copa del Rey win at Cornellà, and he has gone on to feature in league wins against Alavés and Sevilla and in the midweek cup semi-final defeat of the same team, Sevilla.
“I always try to do the best I can for the team” said the 19-year-old, who came to the club ten years ago, and is certainly living up to his promise!
