Marc ter Stegen returned to official competition with a huge game against Dynamo Kiev. His performance was decisive for FC Barcelona, who earned their third victory in the group stage of the Champions League.
Three saves at 1-0
During the opening to the game it seemed that the German would have a quiet 90 minutes... but nothing could be further from the truth. The daring Ukrainian side enjoyed three good chances to draw level after Messi's opening goal, but in all of them, they ran into the German wall.
The second half started with another scare, but Ter Stegen was alert to the possibilities. This time, he used his foot to maintain the advantage. At 2-0 up on the score board, the Catalans were once again indebted to the German in a one against one.
Barça's No.1 even parried a strong shot, but it fell invitingly to Tsigankov who couldn't fail to score. The game ended 2-1, and though the blot on his copybook will bother ter Stegen, a memorable performance from the German on his return to competition will live long in the memory. Welcome back, Marc!
Ter Stegen: 'I really wanted to come back'
Once the game was over, the man of the match explained his feelings: "I've done what I like the most. I really wanted to." The German acknowledged that the team "has suffered a lot" in the final moments but was left happy with the result: "To come back and win is the best. I am super happy." We are also.
