Barça's victory over Getafe this weekend (2-1) and Real Madrid's draw against Celta at the Santiago Bernabéu (2-2) mean that everything is almost equal again at the top of the league. Quique Setién's side have 52 points, and are now within one point of Los Blancos, with 14 matches left to decide who will become the 89th winners of the Spanish top flight title.
Of these 14 matches, both teams have seven fixtures at home and seven away, with El Clásico on March 1 a key date. The schedule that awaits them is demanding, but using last season as a template the remaining games slightly favours Barça, and if history is repeated, they would be awarded a 27th league title at the end of the campaign.
Looking at the same rivals from 2018/19, whether the match was home or away, and not including Mallorca and Osasuna (teams that were part of the Segunda Division), Barça earned a total of 29 points.
Real Madrid managed 26 points from the games against opponents that they still have to play this year, except for Granada and Mallorca.
If the numbers were to be re-produced this season, and given the current difference between the two teams in the standings, Barca would once again become league champions, their ninth title in 12 years.
