FC Barcelona now know their opponents in the semifinals of the Spanish Super Cup. The draw, which was held this Monday in the Las Rozas in Madrid, has decided that Atlético Madrid will be their opponents on Thursday, 9 January in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, the country which will host the competition for the next three years.
Thus, their opponents in the final on January 12 should they make it through will be the winner of the tie between Valencia and Real Madrid, the other semifinal to be played on Wednesday, 8 January.
The Spanish Super Cup has changed format and this year there are four teams involved: Barça, as La Liga champions, Valencia, as Copa del Rey champions, as well as Atlético Madrid and Real Madrid, the second and third placed teams in the league, respectively.
A Final Four format and the change of dates will mean no summer two-legged finals between the champions of the league and Copa del Rey - or the runner-up in the cup final in the case of one team claiming a domestic double.
Barça, who have 13 Spanish Super Cups to their name, reached the final in 2018, when Ernesto Valverde's side won 2-1 against Sevilla in Tangier thanks to goals came from Gerard Piqué and Ousmane Dembélé.
