Four players in first U.S. workout

Philippe Coutinho, Arthur, Arturo Vidal, and Iñaki Peña were the only players out on the pitch this Tuesday morning at Barry University

MIAMI, Florida — A quartet of FC Barcelona players trained in the searing at Barry University on Tuesday morning, less than 24 hours after the team arrived in Miami from Barcelona for the second leg of their 2019 summer tour, which has already taken them to Japan and which this week is making stops here in South Florida and in Ann Arbor, Michigan.

The full squad will train later on Tuesday afternoon at Hard Rock Stadium, where Barça will square off against Napoli on Wednesday evening. Barça will face Napoli again on Saturday at Michigan Stadium.

Taking part in the morning session were the Brazilians Arthur and Philippe Coutinho, the Chilean Arturo Vidal — all three of whom played in the Copa América earlier this summer — and the Barça B goalkeeper Iñaki Peña.

For the three South Americans, Tuesday’s workout was their second of the week — and of the preseason — following their extended vacations after the Copa América.

The Uruguayan striker Luis Suárez, who also played in the Copa América, did not take part on Tuesday morning. Suárez returned to training one week before the other three and played the final minutes of Sunday’s Joan Gamper Trophy match, scoring the winning goal just moments from time to give Barça a 2-1 victory over Arsenal.

Leo Messi, another Copa América participant this summer, did not make the trip to the United States after he suffered an injury on Monday morning before the team departed for Miami.

Barça’s Tuesday evening workout at Hard Rock Stadium is set for 7.00pm local time. Beforehand, defender Gerard Piqué and the new signing Junior Firpo will appear at a pre-game press conference.
