Antoine Griezmann is in Barcelona, and no sooner had the French striker touched down in the Catalan capital than he was addressing the Barça TV microphones.
“I'm very happy” he said. “And looking forward to working with the squad and meeting my new team-mates. It’s a new challenge, with new targets. I hope I can do as well as I have been doing for my club and country.”
“La Liga, La Copa, the Champions League… They're the club's goals and my goals, and I hope to win them here.”
As well as saying how much he will enjoy teaming up with his compatriots Samuel Umtiti and Ousmane Dembélé, the now former Atlético Madrid man also spoke about the prospect of playing alongside the greatest player of all time. “I’m looking forward to seeing what he's like on a day-to-day basis, in training. Playing next to him will be an incredible joy.”
“I was keen to come here, and my family was behind me … For me, it's a big club and I hope to help it to continue being big or make it even bigger. I'm really looking forward to working with my new team-mates and with the boss, and playing at the Camp Nou and hopefully winning a lot of things.”
Big day Sunday
The 28-year-old was then taken to the Camp Nou, where he posed for the traditional pictures in the Barça Store and next to the club crest.
Tomorrow Sunday, Griezmann will be taking his medical examination in the morning and then signing his new contract at a private event in the President Suñol Box.
After that will come the big moment when he appears in Barça kit for the first time, in the stadium itself at an event that will not be open to the public due to the re-laying of the turf, and will then field questions from the media at a conference in the Auditori 1899.
You’ll be able to watch the whole event live with English commentary here on the official FC Barcelona website, starting at 6.15pm CEST.
