Neymar, Pedro, and Aritz Aduriz fight for Spanish Cup scoring title

This Saturday we'll find out not only which team is this year's Spanish Cup champion, but we'll also see who walks away with this year's award for the tournament's top scorer. The current leader is Sevilla's Iago Aspas, who scored seven times before Sevilla were knocked out. Three players in Saturday's final are within striking distance — Neymar, Aritz Aduriz and Pedro Rodríguez, but they'll all have to score to have a chance.

Neymar, with six goals, is closest to Aspas to the current leader and needs just one goal against Athletic Club to tie Aspas and win the award, which would be Neymar's first since joining FC Barcelona.

Neymar's Cup goals

Winning the scoring title would be a well-deserved reward for a player who has had several outstanding, and even decisive, performances, in this year's tournament. Neymar has played five games and scored six goals, all against just three teams — Elche, Atlético Madrid and Villarreal.

In the first leg of the last 16 pitting FC Barcelona against Elche, Neymar scored twice as Barça won 5–0 on aggregate. Interestingly, those were the only goals that Neymar has scored at Camp Nou in this year's Cup. His other four goals all came in second-leg away matches. Neymar scored a pair against Atlético Madrid in the quarter-finals, as well as two more at Villarreal in the semi-finals.

Nevertheless, if Neymar wants to be the top scorer of this year's competition, he'll have to keep an eye on Athletic Club striker Aritz Aduriz who has five goals, one less than Neymar and two less than Aspas. With 26 goals overall this season Aduriz has been in top form. His two goals against Espanyol in the semi-finals, one in each leg, were key in helping the Basques make this year's Final. Before that he had already scored a decisive goal against Málaga in the quarter-finals and burned Celta twice in the last 16.

Pedro, two goals from his one hundredth

Tied Aduriz with five goals in FC Barcelona striker Pedro Rodríguez, who scored four his five against Huesca — one away and three at Camp Nou — while adding one more against Elche. Pedro needs a double against Athletic Club to take home the Pichichi, the name of the award given to the top goal scorer. Two goals for the Canary Island native would, in addition, give him 100 in 316 career matches. Pedro has 58 goals in 203 league matches, 17 goals in 37 Spanish Cup matches, 15 goals in the 60 UEFA Champions League matches, two in nine Spanish Super Cup games, one goal in two European Super Cup games, and two goals in four matches played in the FIFA Club World Cup.
