A pacy winger who started his career at Barça with the U19 squad on his arrival in 1993. After two years in the youth set up he made the leap to the first team under coach Louis van Gaal in the 1997-98 season. The string competition for places meant that Jofre continued representing the B team for the majority of the time before leaving for Levante in 2002. In 2016 he retired from professional football following a spell playing in India.
Jofre Mateu came to FC Barcelona as an U19 player and his pace, ability to take players and his nose for goal caught the eye of first team coach Louis Van Gaal. The Dutchman gave Jofre his debut in the final game of the 1997/98 season against Salamanca with the league title already won. Barça lost that day but Jofre scored the blaugranes' only goal that day in the defeat.
He returned to the B squad the following season and then in the summer of 2001 he went out on loan to Mallorca. On his return in 2002 he signed for Levante where remained until 2005. Spells followed at Espanyol, Murcia, Rayo Vallecano, Valladolid and Girona before the winger made the move to India where he played for Atlético Kolkata and FC Goa before his retirement in 2016.
