Cordoba 2-1 Barça Atlètic: Wasn't to be

No return to professional football for Barça Atlètic, after Rafa Márquez' side lost 2-1 against Cordoba at the Nuevo Arcángel stadium and promotion to the Segunda Division was denied. The blaugranes took a 1-1 draw from the first leg at Estadi Johan Cruyff, and went ahead through Héctor Fort, but Alberto Toril's brace proved decisive. Still a great season for the blaugranes, though, who came so close to having a historic season.

Barça start well

The game began brightly for the blaugranes, with the game being played closer to Cordoba's area. Goalkeeper Carlos Marín made two stops from Moha and Pau Víctor in just the first minute before Bernal (min 8) and Héctor Fort (min 13) efforts. The latter would go on to score just moments later, completing a finish across the goal to put his team ahead after a long counterattacking run (0-1, min 14).

Toril responds

Cordoba began to grow into the game after the blaugranes' early bombardment, so much so that in the 33rd minute, Toril rose to head in a Calderón cross to make it 1-1.

The goal emboldened the home side, who took control of the game. In fact, Diarra (min 49) and Carracedo (min 54) both went close to extending the lead after the break. But again stepped up Alberto Toril after Marc Vidal lost the ball when playing out, slotting home to complete the comeback (2-1, min 55).

A tough blow for Barça Atlètic. who huffed and puffed to try to equalise without too many clear cut chances, Unai coming closest to connecting to a Hector Fort effort. Cordoba didn't have any further chances either, but they were comfortable and saw the game out to deny Barça Atlètic promotion to the Segunda division.
