Agreement to renew García Pimienta contract

FC Barcelona and Francesc Xavier García Pimienta have reached an agreement to renew the Barça B coach’s contract, together with those of his staff, until 30 June 2021 extendible by one further season. Pen will be put to paper at an event that will also be attended by board member Xavier Vilajoana over the coming days.

Francisco Javier García Pimienta was born on 3 August 1974 in Barcelona. From 1986, he was a youth player at FC Barcelona, rising as high as Barça B, where he was part of the ‘Quinta del Mini’ generation along with the likes of De la Peña, Celades, Quique Álvarez, Roger, Juan Carlos Moreno and Toni Velamazán. In 95/96 he scored 8 goals in 35 games and made his first team debut on 26 May 1996 against Deportivo in the league. Since 2001, he has coached youth teams at the club, from U16A through to Barça B.

Champion of UEFA Youth League

García Pimienta was assistant coach of Barça B from 2015 to 2017, before taking over the U19B team in 2017-18, and then the A team, with whom he won the UEFA Youth League in Nyon. He took over Barça B towards the end of the 2017/18 season following the dismissal of Gerard López.

Under his command, Barça B finished eighth in 2018/19 with a very young side indeed, which this 2019/20 season has reached the promotion playoff next Sunday 19 July against the Valladolid Promesas, to be played at the Estadio Ciudad de Málaga.
