The Barça App, candidate for a Webby Award

Nominated in the entertainment and sports category, FC Barcelona are looking to take their second Webby Award after taking the prize for best website two years ago

FC Barcelona are in the running for a Webby Award once again. The Club’s official application has been nominated in the entertainment and sports category along with apps from Marvel, the NFL, ESPN and the 2024 Paris Olympic Games. The Webby Awards are given out annually by the International Academy of Digital Arts and Sciences and recognise high quality digital projects which are leaders in their respective fields.

The Barça app provides a unique experience

The nomination for a Webby Award comes after an overhaul one year ago for the FC Barcelona application. Since April 2024, the app provides a unique, vertical experience that is at the same time highly intuitive. Bringing in Barça ‘Stories’ and ‘Clips’, FC Barcelona became the first football club to offer content in vertical format within their application.

The Barça app is available in four languages (English, Catalan, Spanish and French) and fans around the world can enjoy up to date, entertaining content that is 100% Barça. On match day the app comes into its own, offering games and quizzes to test the fans’ blaugrana knowledge, as well as the Match Day Challenge linked to each game.

App users can also buy tickets, merchandising and consult the schedule for all the Club’s professional sports teams. Furthermore, fans can also consume content linked to the Club’s partners, as well as personalising their experience with avatars and customise the application according to their preferences.

Club website winner in 2023

It is not the first time that the Club has been nominated for a Webby Award. In 2023 the Club’s official website claimed the People’s Voice Award as the Best Sports Website in the world according to the fans. FC Barcelona beat Internazionale of Milan, ESPN, the 2022 Little League Baseball World Series and the Santa Anita California Circuit websites to the prize in the sports category. This year the Club is again a candidate, this time in the entertainment and sports category.

Barça first non-English club to win a Webby

In winning the Webby Award in 2023, the Club added its name to a prestigious list of winners that had previously only contained two sports clubs, both Premier League clubs from England, Manchester United, winners in 2007, and Arsenal, winners in 2018.
