‘Un sentiment, ‘Del bressol a l’infinit’ and ‘L’escut al pit’ are the three candidates to be the 125th Anniversary song

The second episode of Barça One's video podcast, La Llotja del 125, broadcast live this Thursday from the Auditori 1899, included the official presentation of the three candidate songs to become the Anthem of Barça's 125th Anniversary. It was all part of a programme discussing the relationship between Barça and music and how the club has been a source of inspiration for composers and performers over the years.

The hosts of the video podcast, Andreu Juanola and Sara Loscos, began by talking with two members of the jury who selected the three finalist lyrics: singer-songwriter Lluís Gavaldà and journalist Mònica Terribas. "We wanted an inclusive 21st-century anthem," Gavaldà recalled. "It was a cutting-edge process, with a text in Catalan written by people who love the club," addedTerribas.

David Carabén, Commissioner for the 125th Anniversary, explained how the creative process for this new anthem unfolded. It began in May with a public call for submissions of lyrics and continued with the composition of the music and recordings by producers and performers. "We wanted an anthem composed of many different souls" he said. "Spanning generations; the spirit of the grassroots fan filtered through a top-tier jury, with composers from the old school and current producers."

The three resulting songs are: Un Sentiment with lyrics by Marc Ricós, music by Núria Graham, and vocals by the Orfeó Català and Dracs 1991; Del Bressol a l’Infinit with lyrics by David Bricollé, music by Albert Guinovart, and vocals by the group Bravo and Gio; and L’Escut al Pit with lyrics by Xavier Gonzàlez-Costa, music by Carles Cases, and vocals by the Orfeó Català and Dracs 1991. All three songs were produced by Josep Montero and Alizzz

Inspirations

The lyricists were on the show, and shared the secrets behind their compositions with the audience. Said Ricós, "Barça is a benchmark both in sports and socially, and I couldn't imagine an anthem without these aspects in 2024." David Bricollé, a journalist by profession, confessed that for him, "writing an anthem was a challenge" and a way to "motivate himself to do something different," confessing that he wrote the lyrics in a waiting room at a medical centre. For his part, Xavier González-Costa, who has experience in literature and musicals, stated that "contributing something to the club's cultural heritage is a great joy" and expressed his hope that "democracy prevails and the best anthem of the three is chosen."

Voting on Members App

Only members can vote for the winning anthem, and only via the Members App. The poll runs from Thursday 14 November to the 29th of the same month, when the winner will be announced. If already downloaded, the app must be updated to cast a vote, and each person is allowed only one vote.

In the final segment of the second episode of La Llotja del 125, two iconic figures in Barça's history joined the video podcast: Pere Valentí Mora, the first team's goalkeeper from 1974 to 1979, and Gaby Cairo, former player and coach of the roller hockey team and current sports coordinator of the section. Both explained how players experience anthems on the field and on the rink—a magnificent moment for them all.

Finally, Juanola and Loscos also recalled some of the most popular compositions inspired by Barça, featuring songs by artists and from genres as diverse as Jo soc Barcelonista by Guillermina Motta, Botifarra de Pagès by La Trinca, Som Més que un Club by Dyango, and Kubala by Joan Manuel Serrat, among others.
