Araujo and Mapi León, Barça Foundation ambassadors 2023/24

In their first season, the BARÇA FOUNDATION Genuine team's ambassadors were Alexia Putellas and Gerard Piqué, in the second it was Aitana Bonmatí and Sergi Roberto, and now comes the turn of two more top class footballers in Mapi León and Ronald Araujo, who by coincidence both wear number 4 for their respective women's and men's teams.

The 20 male and 7 female players with intellectual difficulties learned the news on Wednesday, when they were surprised by a visit from Mapi and Araujo themselves just before their training session and pitch 5 at the Ciutat Esportiva Joan Gamper, where their was an outpouring of joy and kisses. The new ambassadors both gave short speeches and then enjoyed a kickaround on the field. And all of this in the presence of the FC Barcelona vice-president for the Economic Area, Eduard Romeu, a regular at BARÇA FOUNDATION Genuine matches.

Speaking just before the event, Araujo said “I was very excited when they proposed me as ambassador for the team. Elite footballers get a lot of exposure and so we need to take an especially responsible attitude."

Mapi León, speaking on similar lines to the Uruguayan, added that “until you are inside Barça you don't fully appreciate what More than a Club means. I am thrilled to be a BARÇA FOUNDATION Genuine ambassador, I think I'll learn a lot from the experience."
