FC Barcelona are launching, under the motto 'Una samarreta ens agermana' (‘One shirt unites us’), a new shirt that the first team will wear against Real Madrid in the next edition for ‘El Clásico,’ scheduled for April in the Spanish capital. This is a special edition shirt only for the match, which, for the first time, combines Barça colours with the yellow and red of the ‘Senyera’ flag. The innovative design seeks to highlight the character of Barça fans and their pride in their club, together with the club’s roots and identity in Catalonia.
The new 'Special Edition El Clásico 2020/21' kit goes on sale on Tuesday, January 26, and will be available exclusively until February 1 at the Barça Store on Passeig de Gràcia and the club’s e-Commerce platform. Following that period, it will also be available through regular platforms.
The shirt remains faithful to the traditional Barça vertical stripes, but incorporates the flag and its four stripes on the front in a gradual fading transition. In the central blue stripe, the silhouette of the flag can be seen thanks to the use of different shades of blue, and there is a yellow trim on the neck. The Barça badge remains on the chest, while the logos of Nike and Rakuten on the front, Beko on the sleeve and Unicef on the reverse. The shorts use the same blue as the shirt. The socks, also blue, incorporate the flag in the upper.
Values that unite us
Carles Puyol is the star of the launch of the new shirt, featuring in a video in which the former captain -who embodied the values of the club such as humility, effort, ambition, respect and teamwork- inspires fans ahead of El Clásico at a time in which a global pandemic has forced us to change many of our customs.
"If you need reasons to give it your all in times as hard as this, don't look outside of yourself. Those reasons are within each of us,” is the message from Puyol in the presentation of a kit which represents how together it will be possible to overcome adversity.
The Barça legend appeals to the qualities that define Barça fans around the world, with a refusal to settle for anything less than the best and a constant quest to improve day after day. Puyol also appeals to the values of Barça, an entity open to the world that, without losing its identity and ties to Catal
onia, has been able to become a common ground for different people, cultures and countries.
A commitment to sustainability
Continuing the trend of the latest kits presented by Barça, 100% recycled polyester has been used for the production of the shirt and shorts, obtained from recycled plastic bottles that are melted to obtain a fine thread. The resulting fabric allows the best performance when playing sport, whilst lessening the impact on the environment.
