Josep Sales Montoliu, who for 26 seasons drove the Barça first team in his coaches, is the protagonist of this story, framed by the Cup Winners' Cup celebrations.
He was never an employee of FC Barcelona, but his company 'Sales Barcelona' had a contract with the club for many years. Sales was the man who, from 1958 to 1984, drove a multitude of Barça stars from Kubala to Maradona.
On May 17, 1979, after FC Barcelona won the Cup Winners’ Cup in Basel, Sales took four hours to make the journey from Barcelona airport, where he had collected the triumphant players, to Plaça Sant Jaume, where supporters were waiting to celebrate.
In those hellish hours - for the sake of his work, we have to say - some supporters hung onto his mirrors and climbed on the roof of the coach.
Arriving at the square, someone fell on the tarmac in front of the coach while shouting: "You can pass by me now!"
On the unforgettable journey, Sales would admit that he felt fear then got very emotional when he saw an old priest crying like a child and shouting "Barça, Barça!" on the corner of Via Laietana.
