The FC Barcelona Board of Directors, who met remotely today in an ordinary session, discussed the effects that the coronavirus crisis is causing to its regular activity.
The board emphasised the importance of taking the necessary precautionary measures, going even further than the recommendations and orders that were subsequently made by the various authorities; with the aim of avoiding the contagion of the disease as much as possible, and of protecting the health of all the club's sporting and non-sporting staff.
In fact, from the outset, the club has been at the service of the health authorities to comply and enforce all the instructions that have been received.
It's clear that this crisis is having a very negative impact on the entire football industry and on sports in general, and the club has an obligation to be ready to face all possible scenarios. That's why this Friday, in exercising its responsibility, the Board of Directors have analysed the situation and approached different scenarios and possible measures that can be taken with the aim of minimising all economic damages.
The club is in constant contact with the major European clubs, through the ECA and the LFP, as well as with the leagues and federations of other professional sports, to share this analysis, and the possible measures to apply. In that sense, it's positive that UEFA and CONMEBOL have made the decision to postpone the European Championship and the Copa America by one year, with the benefit being that it will be possible to complete all club competitions.
Aware that we are in a critical moment of the emergency, the board once again calls on all Barça staff and, by extension, all citizens to stay at home. Right now the most important thing is to guarantee everyone's health, and that's why staying at home is not an option, it is an obligation. We would like to thank the coaches and sportsmen who, through their actions, have supported the awareness campaign over the last few days, urging everyone to stay at home.
Finally, the board also wishes to send its full support to all those who are suffering from this virus and its consequences, and to extend an explicit thanks to the workers who guarantee the provision of all basic services. Especially to all healthcare professionals who, endangering their own health, work tirelessly to protect the health of the entire population.
