With the tagline Ho portem dins (‘It’s deep within us’), FC Barcelona is presenting a new kit for this season that features the Catalan flag, the senyera, in honour of the club’s roots and history: over 120 years the club has grown as an entity that is open to the world, and which views sport as a phenomenon that can build bridges between people. However, this has not meant losing its sense of Catalan identity, culture and values.
The new FC Barcelona kit will go on sale tomorrow, Wednesday 13 November, at first only at the Barça Stores at the Camp Nou, Rambla de Canaletes, Passeig de Gràcia, la Roca and Barcelona Airport. The Barça Store at Canaletes (Rambla 124) will also be offering a limited edition shirt to the first 500 buyers bearing the words Ho portem dins (‘It’s deep within us’) on one of the sleeves. A week later, from November 20, the new kit will also be available at all of the other usual official points of sale.
This is the first time that the Club has had four strips in the same season, and just like the first kit, the new jersey it is not only selling a version of the men’s strip with Rakuten on the front, but also the one worn by the women’s team, bearing the name of its own sponsor, STANLEY. Both the men’s and women’s teams will be using this strip for certain league fixtures this season.
The new design features a modern look in which the four red stripes appear diagonally across a yellow background. Another highlight is the retro style V-neck, while the shorts are in the same yellow hue as the shirt to create a sense of continuity from top to bottom. The socks are also yellow, with four red hoops and the Nike logo and the word Barça in blue.
The tagline ‘It’s deep within us’ was chosen to evoke the essence of Barça and one of the factors involved in being ‘More than a Club’, namely being proud to belong to Barcelona and Catalonia. Since its foundation, Barça has always been open to the world and has become a meeting point between different people, cultures and countries, but also without neglecting its Catalan roots and culture. “It is an honour to wear the flag, the four stripes, on the shirt,” said Sergi Roberto, one of the first team captains and a product of the club’s own youth system.
The tagline also refers to the philosophy that underlines what Barça is all about. It is a club that appreciates the value of sport and its ability to change the world, and which so fervently believes that such principles as humility, effort, ambition, teamwork and respect are just as important as the achievement of sporting success.
