The Barça basketball team were unable to back up their win in the Euroleague against Baskonia on Friday with a win in the ACB league as they went down to a 77-70 loss against Río Breogan in Lugo. Joan Peñarroya's team were close to coming back in a game in which they were down by 13 points after a poor first period with Youssoupha Fall scoring 13 points and claiming 10 rebounds.
Fall with seven early points
Senegalese center Fall was a key presence early on for Barça scoring seven points in the opening three minutes. However, the blaugranes were no match for the home side in the initial period and Río ended the opening period with a 27-17 lead.
In the second quarter Barça's shooting from the three point line was poor but despite falling 13 points behind at one moment, the blaugranes fought back to within two points at the break at 38-36.
The second half saw Barça's precision improve and Peñarroya's side took the lead at 45-42. However, Charlie Moore for Río was outstanding and he dragged his side level going into the final quarter at 56-56.
Tight final
The fourth and final quarter was an intense affair with the home side squeezing in front at 71-67. Willy and Jabari Parker brought the blaugranes back into the contest but Moore's three points from the free throw line made all the difference as Río took a 77-70 win.
Barça's next challenge now comes in Belgrade where they will take on Partizan in the Euroleague on Wednesday at 6pm CET.
