Lamine Yamal makes history again

Youngster becomes second youngest Champions League goalscorer of all time

Lamine Yamal refuses to stop rewriting the record books! This Thursday he did it again with his goal against Monaco, which makes him the second youngest player ever to score in the Champions League. At 17 years and 68 days, he is just four weeks older than the record holder was when he scored his first goal in the competition. And that was none other than Ansu Fati, who was sitting the Barça subs bench in the very same game!

He became the fifth under 18 year old to score for Barça in the competition, the others being Bojan Krkic, Pedri and Marc Guiu. All of which is very clear testimony of Barça's constant commitment to young talent.

Lamine had actually already made history before a ball has even been kicked at the Stade Louis II, for he has become the player with the most games in the Champions League before the age of 18. Before today, he was tied with Youri Tielemans, Jude Bellingham and Warren Zaïre-Emery on 10, but now we have an outright leader. Bojan Krkic held the Barça record with nine games in the UCL before turning 18, but Lamine Yamal has now moved things up to a new level.

And as he won't turn 18 until July, he has ample opportunity ahead to extend that record much, much further!
