FC Barcelona has opened its thirteenth 100% club-owned store today Wednesday 26 July, and in one of the busiest and most popular areas for tourists in Barcelona, Maremagnum. Yet another step forward in the expansion of the retail network through Barça Licensing & Merchandising (BLM), created in June 2018.
The new Barça Store opened on the same day as the launch of the new 2023/24 second strip, with its white shirt inspired by Johan Cruyff, and which is on sale on the premises. The opening was attended by Juli Guiu, vice-president of the Marketing Area at FC Barcelona, and former player Julio Salinas.
The Barça Store at Maremagnum has 66 m2 of surface area on a single floor and follows a similar design to the other 100% Barça stores. In one of the most frequented areas of the city in the Barceloneta neighbourhood, it is sure to become a prime destination for visitors to the city, occupying the same spot as a franchise did before, but the new establishment is fully managed by the club.
The thirteenth such 100% club-owned outlet follows those at Spotify Camp Nou, Canaletes, Passeig de Gràcia, Sagrada Família, Westfield La Maquinista, Parc Central Tarragona, La Roca Village, El Corte Inglés Maria Cristina and Plaça Catalunya, Barcelona Airport T1 and T2, Arenal de Madrid and the recent additions at Poble Espanyol and Centre Comercial Arenas.
Consolidated control of retail business
In July 2018, FC Barcelona regained full right to its merchandising catalogue, which until then had pertained to FCB – Merchandising, a company 100% owned by Nike. Since then, Barça has been directly managing its retail through BLM in order to have full control over is brand at its international expansion.
The strategy includes the creation of a network of outlets that are 100% governed by FC Barcelona, with Canaletes as the flagship, being the second biggest store after the one at Spotify Camp Nou.
