The 58th Joan Gamper Trophy game will see FC Barcelona take on Tottenham Hotspur with the English side the guests for the first match at the Estadi Olímpic Lluís Companys for Xavi Hernández's team. The fixture will take place on 8 August at 8pm CEST with the Premier League side coached by Australian Ange Postecoglou Barça's last opponents of pre-season before the beginning of the official campaign away at Getafe on 13 August. Prior to the Gamper Barça will have played four friendlies during their US summer tour.
Second appearance in the Gamper game
This year will see the club from London appear in the Joan Gamper Trophy for the second time and they are one of five English clubs to have taken part alongside Ipswich Town in 1981, Nottingham Forest in 1983, Manchester City in 1982 and 2009, Aston Villa in 1984 and finally Arsenal in 2019. Spurs will take part in the pre-season fixture for the second time but it will be the first time that they have faced Barça in the Gamper.
Tottenham first took part in 1986 and at the time the tournament involved four teams, with two semi-finals and a final. The London club were invited along with Dutch team PSV Eindhoven and Italians AC Milan. The English team lost their semi-final on penalties against PSV after a 1-1 draw with Barça beating AC Milan 3-1 in the other semi-final. In the final the blaugranes came out on top defeating their Dutch opponents 1-0.
Third Gamper game at Montjuïc
The 58th Gamper game will be the third to take place at Montjuïc. In 1990 and 1996 the fixture was played at the Estadi Olímpic Lluís Companys due to a change of pitch at Spotify Camp Nou with Barça claiming the trophy on both occasions.
