Hansi Krankl, Hristo Stoichkov, Juan Antonio Pizzi, Ronaldo Nazário, Henrik Larsson, Thierry Henry, Luis Suárez, Leo Messi and now, Robert Lewandowski. This is the list of players who have represented Barça and, at some point in their careers, also won the European Golden Shoe. The Polish striker joins that exclusive list after proving himself to be one of the best strikers of the last decade, winning the award for top scorer in Europe in 2021 and 2022.
Two seasons to remember
Since the start of his career, Robert Lewandowski's name has been associated with goals. Over the last two seasons the striker has taken his goalscoring exploits to another level, claiming the Golden Shoe in both campaigns.
In the 2020/21 season, under then Bayern coach Hansi Flick, Lewandowksi scored a remarkable 41 goals in the Bundesliga in just 29 matches, ahead of second placed Leo Messi on 30 goals and Cristiano Ronaldo on 29.
The following season the Polish striker's hunger for goals continued under new coach Julian Naglesmann and Lewandowski racked up 35 in 34 matches in the Bundesliga to take another Golden Shoe award.
A list full of blaugrana legends
Lewandowski's two Golden Shoe awards see him join a list of players who have represented FC Barcelona and taken the prize as Europe's top goalscorer. Leo Messi leads the way with six awards, setting a record of 50 goals in the league in the 2011-12 season in a Barça shirt.
Luis Suárez scored 40 goals in blaugrana in the 2014/15 season to take the award and Ronaldo Nazario did the same in 1996/97 when scored 34 goals for Barça in the league to lead the way. Other Barça legends Hristo Stoichkov, Thierry Henry, Henrik Larsson, Juan Antonio Pizzi and Hansi Krankl all were top scorers representing other clubs in their careers.
