Marc Gasol to speak at the Sports Tomorrow Congress (WOM+N) 2021
The Sport Tomorrow Congress (WOM+N)2021, the sport innovation congress organised by Barça Innovation Hub, taking place this week both in-person in the Club's facilities and online, has added a star speaker to the roster. None other than NBA player Marc Gasol, who will take part in an Analytics program session this Thursday to discuss everyday interactions and information flows between players and coaches in the NBA.
Marc Gasol - currently a free agent but an ex-player for FC Barcelona, as well as the Memphis Grizzlies, Toronto Raptors, and Los Angeles Lakers in the NBA - will take part in the session alongside Britni Donaldson, ex-assistant coach for the Toronto Raptors, where she was with Marc Gasol during the 2019/20 season when they won the NBA Championship.
The session will involve a face-to-face conversation to discuss day-to-day interactions between players and coaches in the NBA, how players can make the most of data analytics, what's the best way to convey this data to players, or the extent to which this data helps their performance, among other topics.
Marc Gasol joins other notable names from sport taking part in this edition of the congress, including Frenkie de Jong, who will also take part on Thursday, via a recorded session alongside Vosse de Boode, the Sport Science and Data Analytics manager from AFC Ajax, as part of the same Analytics program. The congress also features the FC Barcelona basketball player, Àlex Abrines, and the Barça Women players, Marta Torrejón, Alexia Putellas, Mariona Caldentey and Caroline Hansen, along with team coach, Jonatan Giráldez.
The Analytics track is one of the seven congress programs during this latest edition of the Sports Tomorrow Congress (WOM+N)2021, which includes a wide range of specialisms, such as Medicine and Physiotherapy, Nutrition and Performance, Technology, Business, Methodology (Coach) and Gastrosport, a newly added track to the Congress, which combines sports nutrition with gastronomy.
This year's conference focuses on women and their role in the different areas of the sports industry. The official name of the congress, Sports Tomorrow Congress (WOM+N)2021, is a clear statement of intent for the event when it comes to promoting equal representation and opportunities for women in all areas of the sector. This objective is supported by women comprising 55 percent of the more than 120 specialists from 47 different countries who are taking part.
