A week to go until Barça's next game. The blaugranes have a fixture on a Monday once again having played out a 4-1 win against Huesca just two weeks ago on a Monday. Ronald Koeman's opponents will be Valladolid in a game that kicks off at Camp Nou at 9.00pm CEST and that will see Barça eager to keep their run of excellent performances in La Liga going once the international break is over. How do Barça normally get on on Mondays? Let's have a look.
Since the turn of the century, Barça have played just five games on a Monday and all have ended in victory for the blaugranes. The first came on 28 August 2006 with a 3-2 win away at Celta de Vigo. Just three years later on 31 August 2009 there was a 3-0 win at home against Sporting Gijón.
Without doubt, the most memorable Monday in recent years was the Clásico on 29 November 2010. Barça beat Real Madrid 5-0 at Camp Nou in one of the best performances in their history. Goals from David Villa (2), Xavi, Pedro and Jeffren cemented a great win that went down in blaugrana history. Let's take a trip down memory lane:
Following that momentous win there was another 5-0 victory also at Camp Nou, this time on 29 August 2011 against Villarreal. Most recently on 15 March came this season's 4-1 over Huesca to round five wins out of five for Barça on Monday in the current century in La Liga.
Outside of La Liga there has been one other fixture for the blaugranes on Monday in the 21st century. On 17 August 2015 Barça drew at Camp Nou against Athletic Club in the Spanish Super Cup. Six matches and not a single defeat on a Monday, let's hope the run continues.
