29 September 1993 was a night of football at its most sublime best at the Camp Nou, as Johan Cruyff’s Dream Team were simply amazing against Dynamo Kyiv.
Could we say that that game in the first knockout round of the 1993/94 Champions League was the best game of all those played by the Dream Team?
There are plenty of arguments to defend that case, with Johan Cruyff, assisted by Charly Rexach and Tonny Bruins Slot, guiding the team in a perfectly executed 3-4-3 to a remarkable victory.
After losing the first leg 3-1 in Ukraine, there was a job to be done. And with their passing game at its most brilliant best they had 29 shots on goal, and four of them found the net.
Koeman on target
Bakero (2), Laudrup and Koeman scored the goals.
Koeman, al minut 68 i amb aquest llançament de falta al fons de la xarxa, va coronar la remuntada culer i va tancar l'electrònic d'una nit celestial
"It has been a night of passion both on the pitch and in the stands” said Cruyff after it had at all ended. And on Wednesday 4 November, albeit with nothing like the same passion in the stands due to Covid, an enticing rerun of that game awaits, with Ronald Koeman no longer on the field, but now in the role that Cruyff was in back in 1994.
As we all look forward to the game with Dynamo in the 2020/21 Champions League, we can ask ourselves once again: was that FC Barcelona 4-1 Dynamo Kyiv in 1993/94 the bets game that the Dream Team played?
