Things have been going fabulously in La Liga, and now it's time to start carrying that form across into Europe. But we only have to go back to the Gamper to realise that Monaco is going to be a very tough test indeed.
Ansu Fati back
Hansi Flick has received a major boost with news that Ansu Fati is back to full fitness. After returning from a loan year at Brighton, he suffered a foot injury during the preseason on July 24, meaning he is yet to feature in either friendly or competitive matches this season.
389 days later
Following a conservative treatment programme, he is finally back and has been named in the first Champions League squad of the season. If he plays, it will be the first time he has done so for Barça in 389 days, going all the way back to the 4-3 win in Villarreal on 27 August 2023, which was followed by the announcement that he'd be spending the rest of the season in the Premier League.
Full squad
The full list of players for the Thursday 9pm CEST kick-off is as follows: Ter Stegen, Cubarsí, Balde, I. Martinez, Ferran, Pedri, Lewandowski, Ansu Fati, Raphinha, Iñaki Peña, Pablo Torre, M. Casadó, Pau Víctor, Lamine Yamal, Kounde, Eric, Astralaga, H. Fort. Gerard Martín, S. Domínguez, Cuenca, Guillermo and A. Fernández. Note that the list includes teenager Guillermo, who was registered yesterday in the competition's B List.
Final workout
Before travelling to Monaco, the team trained one last time at the Estadi Johan Cruyff on Wednesday morning. Gavi and Frenkie de Jong were again able to partake in some of the group exercises, where the first teamers were joined by Guillermo Fernández, Toni Fernández and Andrés Cuenca of Barça Atlètic, all of whom will also be flying to Monaco.
