Sergi Roberto, the captain who always steps up
A captain in every sense of the word, the Catalan midfielder again proves decisive in a game that needed to be won. He might not have played since the Copa del Rey on 24 January against Athletic Club, but the captain wore the armband with pride and helped propel the team into the Champions League quarter-finals.
Being there when needed
It was the 60th minute when Xavi asked for Sergi Roberto to come on in midfield. Replacing Fermín, the captain took to the field when the blaugranes most needed him as the second half didn't start that well. Napoli were pushing and Xavi's side could have conceded to make it 2-2.
However, Roberto showed composure and calm on the field to redirect the situation until the team grabbed the goal to seal the win. The Catalan had only played 716 minutes this season up to Tuesday, adding another 34 minutes in what was potentially the most important period this season.
A leader's performance
The veteran took just half a hour to make a difference in defence, but more so in attack. He created three chances, completed ten final third passes, and most importantly, assisted Lewandowski for the third decisive goal in the knockout tie.
The Catalan could have scored himself, but he showed great composure to slide the ball across to the Polish marksman to finish into an empty net.
Just like in the 16/17 season, Sergi Roberto played a vital role to ensure qualification for the quarter-finals of the European competition, with the reward an appearance after a four year hiatus.
