Barça B were unable to see out the season with a win, as late free kick undid the good work done by Marqués with an equaliser five minutes from the end, shortly after the U19 team’s Nico had come to to make his debut as a replacement for Kike Saverio.
Home side Castellón, who needed a win to stay up, and achieved their goal, were clearly more fired up for this game than Barça B, who finish the season eighth, eight points adrift of the promotion playoffs. They had most of the chances in the first half, and hit the woodwork twice, although the reserves could have drawn first blood when Oriol Busquets had a fine long range effort saved.
Barça B had the ball in the opposition’s half far more after the break, and Saverio was especially active as they pressed forward.
It wasn’t until the final twenty minutes that Castellón started causing danger again, but much to the frustration of the home side, they struck the post yet again. Relegation threated, but with just seven minutes left, Jairo finally got them off the mark.
The local jubilation didn’t last. Straight from the restart, Marqués levelled.
Castellón threw everything forward, and right at the end César Díaz found the net from a free-kick and celebrations erupted in the packed Nou Estadi Castàlia. The news that neither Alcoyano nor Teruel had won their own games meant they were saved.
