FC Barcelona and Atlético Madrid will be going head to head in the Copa del Rey semi-finals, with the first leg at the Estadi Olimpic on February 25 at 9.30pm CET and the return kicking off at the same time on April 2 at the Metropolitano. The red-and-whites have already beaten Barça in the league this season, but what about previous meetings in the cup. Let's see...
Blaugrana dominance
The teams have crossed paths 14 times in the competition before, and Barça lead the series 8-4. And the more recently we look, the better the results have been from a Catalan point of view.
The most recent cases, in 2009, 2015 and 2017, all ended in Barça victories, the first two coinciding with the famous treble-winning campaigns of 2009 and 2015.
In 2009, Pep Guardiola was in charge as Barça first won 3-1 at Atlético's old Vicente Calderón and then finished off the job with a 2-1 victory at Camp Nou.
In 2015, the manager was Luis Enrique and after a 1-0 win at home in the quarter final first leg, Barça marched off to the capital to win 3-2, and 4-2 on aggregate.
The most recent cup matches between the pair were the 2017 semi-finals, with Barça again winning in Madrid, this time 2-1, followed by a 1-1 draw at home. And once again, Barça went on to win the cup, beating Alavés in the final.
